Good Friday: The Aroma of Sacrificial Love.

Good Friday stands as the pinnacle of sacrificial love. On the cross, as Jesus took His final breath, He uttered, “It is finished” (John 19:30). These words marked not just the completion of His earthly mission but the fulfillment of God’s plan to redeem humanity. In that moment, Christ’s love poured out fully, willingly bearing the weight of our sins so that we might be reconciled with the Father.

This act of love exudes the aroma of Christ—a fragrance so profound that it transforms lives. In ancient times, the scent of burnt offerings rose as a pleasing aroma to the Lord, symbolizing atonement and devotion (Leviticus 1:9). On the cross, Jesus became the ultimate offering, a perfect and eternal sacrifice. His sacrificial love is the sweet aroma that ascends to the heavens, pleasing to God and inviting us into a restored relationship with Him.

Good Friday calls us to contemplate the depth of this love and how it moves us to respond. Are we allowing Christ’s sacrifice to shape our lives? Are we reflecting His selfless love in how we serve, forgive, and extend grace? The aroma of Christ invites us to lay down our pride, sins, and burdens at the foot of the cross, living in gratitude for the love that knew no limits.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus,

We are overwhelmed by the depth of Your sacrificial love. May our lives rise as a fragrant offering to You, filled with gratitude, humility, and devotion. Teach us to reflect Your love in all we do, so that others may see and be drawn to You. Amen.
