Maundy Thursday: The Last Supper and servanthood.

Maundy Thursday: The Aroma of Love in Action

On Maundy Thursday, Jesus shared the Last Supper with His disciples, but He also demonstrated one of the most profound acts of humility and love: He washed their feet (John 13:1–17). This act was more than a simple gesture; it was an embodiment of servanthood, love in action, and a call to follow His example.

When Jesus knelt to wash the feet of His disciples, He gave them—and us—a glimpse into the aroma of Christ. It is the fragrance of selfless love that rises to the Lord, pleasing Him as it touches the lives of others with humility and grace. Servanthood, as Jesus showed, is not about status or recognition; it is a choice to love deeply and serve faithfully, no matter the cost.

Maundy Thursday invites us to reflect on how we live out this love in action. Are we serving others with humility, offering our time and hearts as a fragrant gift to the Lord? Just as Jesus washed the feet of even Judas, who would betray Him, we are called to extend love and forgiveness to all—even in difficult circumstances. This is the aroma of Christ, a life poured out for the glory of God and the good of others.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, thank You for showing us the beauty of love in action. Help us to serve others with humility, reflecting Your heart in all we do. May our lives rise as a pleasing aroma to You, filled with grace, selflessness, and unwavering devotion. Teach us to love as You love, that Your fragrance may be seen in us. Amen
